Community Service

In my legal work, I am fortunate to be able to help my clients legally and emotionally through one of the most difficult and scary times of their life, and I am humbled by the appreciation that they demonstrate.  I also greatly enjoy giving back to the community and those less fortunate outside of my law practice.

Fostering animals

My family and I have fostered many stray dogs and cats in our home over the years, including fostering animals through the Milo Foundation and other animal rescue organizations.

Center for the Education of the Infant Deaf

For several years, I was a volunteer member of the Board of Directors of the Center for the Education of the Infant Deaf, a pioneering school in Berkeley that has made a huge impact in the lives of pre-school children with hearing impairments.  At the annual fundraiser golf tournament, graduates will return and share their stories of how profoundly CEID has transformed their lives for the better.

Coaching children’s athletics

I have served as a volunteer coach for my children’s athletic teams, including many years as a coach in the Albany/Berkeley Girls Softball League, Berkely/Albany Little League, El Cerrito Youth Baseball, and the University Village basketball program.

Food programs for the poor

I have helped serve food at free meal services for the poor and homeless.

Monetary contributions to charities

I have made monetary contributions to many charitable organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco, CEID, the California League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, the Berkeley YMCA, Calpirg, Amnesty International, and others.
